Today is National Salesperson’s Day. National Salesperson Day was established to recognize professional salespeople and how they contribute to the workforce and the bottom lines of small, mid and large size companies. Have a kind word and a smile for the local grocery, department, or convenience store, door to door sales people, Insurance Agents, Finacial Advisors, Loan officers and mortgage brokers, manufacturer’s reps and on and on… Purchase a dozen ribbons with “VIP” or “You’re Terrific” written on them and hand them out to every salesperson you come into contact with.Read what The US Census Bureau posted about National Salesperson Day
With Christmas Eve just two weeks away, the nation’s retail stores certainly will be crowded for the weekend, as shoppers get into high gear to check off the names on their gift list. It’s a time for goodwill and patience on the part of all concerned. In our rush, we may overlook the good work of the salespeople who staff the country’s 1.1 million retail businesses, ranging from furniture to auto parts to sporting goods, and without whom shopping would be impossible. Whether part time or career, there are close to 16 million employees staffing these businesses, most of them sharing their expertise and providing service with a smile.
You can find these and more facts about America from the U.S. Census Bureau.
Without salespeople, buying decisions would be more difficult and would take longer. Salespeople help their customers make the best buying decisions by educting us and cutting our “learning curve” about products we are interested in buying. No one can be an expert in everything and so we rely on these sales experts to help us with their knowledge and expertise by being a resource for our purchasing decisions.
These experts filter information providing us with the most important and needed information in which to make these buying decisions. We don’t need to know what the user manual says we only need to know that the contents are there should we need them. Salespeople help consumers make better informed decisions much quicker than if we had to learn everything on our own.
How can we celebrate National Salesperson Day? Thank the folks in your life who sell things for a living, take a sales professional to lunch, talk to a salesperson (instead of screeing your calls) and most importantly BUY SOMETHING!
