National Business Etiquette Week

June 7-13th is National Business Etiquette Week ~ Here are some tips Success Magazine shared with their readers:
1. Remember that email is never private. It lives in cyberspace long after the conversation.  Before responding make sure your “tone” is professional.  Because you do not know who the sender had BCC’d play it safe. Don’t let your emotions show, be sure to use spell checker as well as the “right words.”
2.  Business meals can be a challenge for those who don’t know their bread plate from their water glass!  Remember B – M – W  (left to right) which stands for bread, meal, water and you should be okay.
3. Stay away from topics that could stir too much controversy (especially in business situations). Those topics include religion, money, sex and diets.
4. The sweetest sound to an individual is her name. If you use it at least 3 times during the course of your conversation (when being introduced, during the conversation and when saying goodbye) you will not only have an easier time remembering it, you will endear yourself to the other party.
5. Your business card represents you.  Make sure you have them, they are professionally done (no phone numbers crossed out and handwritten) and that they are clean.  If you do need to write on the card make it  something the recipient will remember you by.
Good business etiquette is about projecting a professional image that builds your credibility.
