November 18th is Mickey Mouse Day

Mickey MouseHave a Mickey (and Minnie) Mouse Open House complete with costumes and more. Have food, fun, prizes and even a trivia contest to commemorate the day.  If you are in retail, sell Mickey Mouse giftware  or give away tickets to one of the Disney properties (consultants).

November 18th is also Play Monopoly Day ~ Parker Brothers launched Monopoly Today in 1935. The most expensive Monopoly Set was created by jeweler Sidney Mobell of San Francisco in 1988. The $2-million dollar set is 23-karat gold and the dice have 42 full cut diamonds for spots. In 1996 my local chamber of commerce created Chamberopoly to promote the benefits of membership in the local community.  We sold spots on the board to local business people to help defray the cost of designing and printing the board and then recruited members to “sell” membership to other businesses who had not yet joined. It was one of the most successful membership efforts the chamber had done in their 25+ year history.

November 18th is also Use Less Stuff Day ~ It could also be called useless stuff day, because often we buy things thinking it will be useful only to find out it is pretty much useless. If it was not expensive we may toss it out (adding more garbage to the environment). In fact, during the five weeks between Thanksgiving and New Year’s, Americans produce an extra one million tons of trash per week, compared to any other time of the year? So, to help trim the trash while trimming the tree, The ULS Report offers a challenging checklist of simple things you can do to reduce waste while you eat, drink, and make merry this holiday season called 42 Ways to trim your holiday Waste Line.  Grab a copy here: http://www.use-less-stuff.com/ULSDAY/42ways.html. Help promote the day with a media release telling what your company is going to do to use less stuff.
November 18 – 24th is National Cookie Week ~ When Debbie Fields opened up a new cookie store in any city, the first thing she did was give cookies away. People liked them, began to talk about them (and the experience) and ultimately returned to buy more cookies. She was not the only cookie store in town. She was not the only bakery in town. But she ended up being the most successful in town. There are two things you need to do: 1) Bring testimonials from existing customers in video format to your new city. Testimonials are proof that your product is great, that your service is great, and that you deliver what you promise. 2) Find one or two great prospective customers and give your product away in exchange for local testimonials. Most companies make the foolish mistake of trying to make sales before they make friends or build relationships.
Once you have developed a few loyal customers, begin a testimonial advertising campaign — letting your customers speak for you. (source: Jeffrey Gitomer – Sales Caffeine)
