This year The United Way hosted an Office Olympics to raise money for the Center County United Way that took place in August.
Staff and faculty from across the College formed teams to fundraise for the United Way and to compete in the office-themed Olympic games. This year, the teams raised a total of $3,782 – the largest amount raised to date.
Here’s a fun video from YouTube called Powerlaps that can give you some idea of what to do during Office Olympics Day:
You can promote Office Olympics Day by posting a notice on the office bulletin board. Include an invitation in the weekly pay envelope. Recruit team captains to help create order for the event. Think of interesting and sought-after prizes such as dinners for two, spa days, shopping gift cards and more.
Have a prize for those who come in “last.” This shows good sportsmanship and will encourage people to participate the next time you have an Office Olympics Day. This can also be a great motivational tool to get people to work together and look forward to coming to work (especially in this economy).
At the end of Office Olympics Day be sure to pass out “gold,” “silver” and “bronze” medals to the “winners. You can usually get these at a local trophy merchant.
Make up your own RULES and let the games (and fun) begin.
